  • How do I book a sauna visit?
You can book your sauna session on our website. When you go to the booking page you will be able to see which sauna sessions are available. You can book your place by selecting a shared sauna (max 6 people) and then choosing the number of people you are booking for. If there are less than 6 places available it will mean you are sharing with other guests (which is all the more fun). However, if you are looking for a more quiet or private experience, you have the option of booking the sauna in full. Just make sure you are the first one to book for this date and time (i.e. there are 6 spaces left) and you tick the box that says "private sauna". You can bring up to 8 people to the sauna. We also have some special events throughout the year - keep an eye out on our Instagram to know when they are coming up. If you have a special request (like a corporate event, a birthday or a hen do) do email us at info@billiessauna.com and we'd love to arrange something special for you.
  • How do I cancel?
Once you've made a booking you will receive a booking confirmation over email. Halfway in the copy there is a button that says "View / change booking". This will allow you to change or cancel your booking according to our cancellation policy. Our cancellation policy: Unfortunately we have to apply a cancellation fee of 100% if you cancel less than 24 hours in advance. However, please feel free to send on the details of the booking to someone else, who can enjoy the sauna in your place. You will receive a credit voucher of 50% for cancellations 48-24 hours in advance. You can cancel or rebook your session more than 48 hours in advance at no cost. In case of special circumstances, do contact us and we'll always see what we can do.
  • How do I get in touch?
Feel free to contact us via email info@billiessauna.com if you have any questions or suggestions. We love to speak with our guests! If you have any standard questions, please read the rest of our FAQ's first - the answer might be in there already. If you have lost something in the sauna, please contact us by email and we will let you know if we've found it. You can also check at NIUS Beachhouse as we tend to leave the items there. We only keep items for 2 months after which we dispose of them or give them to charity.
  • Is sauna safe for everyone?
Sauna use is absolutely safe, as long as you make sure you listen to your body, take a break when you feel like it and drink enough water. If you are pregnant or have any underlying health problems, please speak to your doctor before booking.
  • What is the age limit?
Billies sauna only accepts people over the age of 18 in our shared sauna. If you'd like to bring younger people into a private sauna with you, make sure there is adult supervision and you check with a doctor before booking. Check on everyone regularly and make sure you all take lots of breaks and drink enough water.
  • What is the temperature of the sauna?
A good sauna is between 70-100 degrees Celsius. At Billies we aim for 80 degrees. Our sauna is on the beach and therefore exposed to the elements. This means that with stormy weather it can be difficult for our stove to get the temperature very high. If the sauna is less than 70 degrees during your session, we would like to hear from you and we will compensate you with a credit voucher. Please contact info@billiessauna.com with any issues.
  • Why do I have to wear swimwear in the sauna?
Billies sauna is located on a public beach, which means nudity is not allowed and we've chosen to copy that policy into our sauna. We have a small dressing room, so when you are changing discuss taking turns with your fellow visitors. This ensures everyone feels comfortable and safe at Billies.
  • Can I bring my own oils or products?
Please feel free to bring oils to the sauna, as long as you make sure they are 100% natural and suitable for sauna use. Heat can release toxins and we can't take any responsibility for oils that are not approved by us. We have a cold shower outside and we ask you not to use any soap or shampoo there. The water is not connected to a sewer and so it goes directly into the groundwater.
  • Anything else I should know?
Take off any jewellery before you go in the hot room, as they will get hot and we don't want you to lose something valuable. Don't take your phone or other electrical appliances with them as they might overheat. No food or drinks are allowed in the sauna (except water off course). Be careful with alcohol before and after the sauna, as it dehydrates you and might cause a headache. Don't drink any alcohol during your sauna session.
  • What do I bring?
Please bring swimwear, two towels (one for sitting on, one for drying), a water bottle, flip flops, a changing robe (if you have one) and a plastic bag to comfortably take home your wet stuff. It is always nice to wrap up warmly after your visit, especially on the colder days.
  • When do I arrive?
Please arrive 5 minutes before your booking. If the sauna is empty, feel free to start your session early. The sooner you get changed the more you get to optimise your time in the sauna. This is why we recommend wearing your swimwear underneath your clothes when you arrive.
  • What does a shared sauna mean?
Unless you book the full capacity of a shared sauna during your time slot, you will be sharing the sauna with others. Our shared sauna hosts up to 6 people. You are very much allowed to talk during our shared saunas, but please be mindful of your fellow sauna goers when doing so. This also goes for playing music - make sure everyone is happy with your choice and volume of tunes. If you prefer to have more privacy, please book the full capacity during your chosen time slot. This means you can bring up to 8 people.
  • What about the weather?
We love a bit of rough weather, as the contrast makes the sauna all the more enjoyable. However, safety always comes first! We will close the sauna when there is storm due with a wind speed of more than 40 knots (75 km/hr). We will inform you of the closure by email, Whatsapp or phone and you'll be given a credit so you can reschedule your visit. There might be other cases where the weather or the tide is making it hard for us to offer safe sauna use and we hope for your understanding whenever we do decide to close.
  • Are there any sauna rules?
Our simple sauna etiquette is as follows: Do not touch the stove Always shut the doors (front and sauna door) Sit on a towel Keep your (swimwear) bottoms on Be mindful of others Listen to your body, not the timer
  • What facilities do you have at the location?
TOILETS: We partner with NIUS Beachhouse and during their opening hours you can use their toilet facilities (opening hours: https://niusbeachhouse.nl/contact). Be aware opening times change during different seasons. We always recommend you use the toilet at home or before entering the sauna. SHOWER: We have a cold shower and some seats which you can enjoy in between sauna sessions. FOOD & DRINK Except for water, you are not allowed to bring your own food or drinks into the sauna. There is a tap where you can fill up your water bottle, so you can make sure you keep hydrated. Before or after your session you can grab a seat by the fire at NIUS Beachhouse, who offer a good range of food and drinks!
  • Where can I find your sauna?
We are located on the grounds of NIUS Beachhouse, a year round pavilion on the beach of Zandvoort. The address is: Boulevard Paulus Loot - Strandafslag 5 2042 AA Zandvoort Walk down to the beach and you will find us north of the pavilion.
  • How do I reach the sauna?
If you can travel by bike, please do so and park your bike on the boulevard. If you are travelling by train, it is a 1 km walk which will take you approximately 15 minutes. If you are travelling by car you can park in the designated car spaces on the boulevard (don’t forget to pay or turn on your parking app) or you can park on parking lot De Zuid, which is a 5 minute walk to NIUS Beachhouse (you get a ticket which you pay for once you leave).
